چکیده

Plotkin’s style of Structural Operational Semantics (SOS) has become a de facto standard in giving operational semantics to formalisms and process calculi. In many such formalisms and calculi, the concepts of names, variables and binders are essential ingredients. In this paper, we propose a formal framework for dealing with names in SOS. The framework is based on the Nominal Logic of Gabbay and Pitts and hence is called Nominal SOS. We define nominal bisimilarity, an adaptation of the notion of bisimilarity that is aware of binding. We provide evidence of the expressiveness of the framework by formulating the early π-calculus and Abramsky’s lazy λ-calculus within Nominal SOS. For both calculi we establish the operational correspondence with the original calculi. Moreover, in the context of the π-calculus, we prove that nominal bisimilarity coincides with Sangiorgi’s open bisimilarity and in the context of the λ-calculus we prove that nominal bisimilarity coincides with Abramsky’s applicative bisimilarity.

Low-complexity estimation of 2D DOA for coherently distributed sources

We consider the estimation of two-dimensional (azimuth and elevation) direction-of-arrival (DOA) using a pair of uniform circular arrays under a coherently distributed source model. Since the coherently distributed source is characterized by four parameters, the nominal azimuth DOA, angular extension of the azimuth DOA, nominal elevation DOA, and angular extension of the elevation DOA, the comp...

Using Distance to Bifurcation to Quantify the Resilience of Nonnegative Dynamical Systems

This paper describes the use of sums-of-square (SOS) program to compute a resilience measure for nonnegative dynamical systems. Such measure is defined as the distance between system’s nominal parameter and the closest critical paramater at which a bifurcation occur. Our proposed method uses a modeling formalism from chemical reaction network theory to describe the dynamics of nonnegative syste...

Formal SOS-Proofs for the Lambda-Calculus

We describe in this paper formalisations for the properties of weakening, type-substitutivity, subject-reduction and termination of the usual big-step evaluation relation. Our language is the lambda-calculus whose simplicity allows us to show actual theorem-prover code of the formal proofs. The formalisations are done in Nominal Isabelle, a definitional extention of the theorem prover Isabelle/...

A new low-temperature high-aspect-ratio MEMS process using plasma activated wafer bonding

This paper presents the development and characterization of a new high-aspect-ratio MEMS process. The silicon-on-silicon (SOS) process utilizes dielectric barrier discharge surface activated low-temperature wafer bonding and deep reactive ion etching to achieve a high aspect ratio (feature width reduction-to-depth ratio of 1:31), while allowing for the fabrication of devices with a very high an...

Rule Formats for Nominal Process Calculi

The nominal transition systems (NTSs) of Parrow et al. describe the operational semantics of nominal process calculi. We study NTSs in terms of the nominal residual transition systems (NRTSs) that we introduce. We provide rule formats for the specifications of NRTSs that ensure that the associated NRTS is an NTS and apply them to the operational specification of the early pi-calculus. Our study...
